The vinification of this Sauvignon Blanc is traditional, meaning that upon arrival at the cellar, the free-run juices are separated before pressing the grapes. After settling for 24hours, the juices are fermented in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats where temperatures are maintained between 16 and 20°C. After several rackings, Domaine de la Renaudie only does one filtration using fine earth before bottling – yes this wine is Vegan!

Domaine de la Renaudie is a family-run winery located in the Touraine appellation of the Loire Valley in France, established a century ago in 1923! Flowing off the south side of the Loire River near the city of Tours, is a tributary called the Cher River. The Cher carves out hillsides throughout many different towns but less than an hour southeast from Tours is the small town of Mareuil-sur-Cher. Here, Domaine de la Renaudie has 30 hectares of vineyard planted which have all been certified “Terra Vitis” for the past decade. They produce approximately 200,000 bottles a year, most of which is Sauvignon Blanc (white grapes), however they also grow the red Côt (also known as Malbec) in smaller volumes. Although the winery was established over 100 years ago in 1923 by Bruno Denis’ grandfather, their property has gone through many transformations. Starting as a farm with vineyard, grains, cereals, and animals, and eventually expanding in the ’90s to only focus on wine, the Denis family has elevated their Sauvignon Blanc quality and image to world-class levels. In fact, winery matriarch, Patricia Denis was extremely involved in the foundation of a new sub-appellation in their area called Chenonceaux (read more below). Today, the Domaine is run by the 4th generation, Charlotte Denis, who is at the helm of all winemaking. What truly makes La Renaudie unique is their involvement in the new(er) appellation within the Touraine AOC called Chenonceaux. From 1985 until 2011, Patricia and Bruno Denis pushed to have the best vineyards along the Cher River recognized for making the best wines. Chenonceaux Sauvignon Blanc and Côt must be grown on soils made from clay and stones primarily, vines must be planted on slopes that face the Cher river and towards the top of the elevation where they can keep berry sizes small for higher quality fruit. Better ripeness comes from the vines at the top of the slopes, so the final Chenonceaux product is always round and delicious to drink. More than half of the Renaudie acreage is designated as Chenonceaux and the Denis family are extremely proud to be part of this certification. The Loire Valley in the north end of France is large and diverse, with four different major zones of appellations outlined and many different subregions within each. It’s commonly referred to as “the garden of France” due to its rich agricultural lands, vineyards and majestic châteaux gardens from the Renaissance period. Climate and terroir affect every single subregion of the Loire Valley and determine what grapes are grown in each. The Touraine AOC can be found within the Middle Loire section, beside the well known appellations of Anjou and Saumur. The Touraine runs for approximately 100 kilometers in length and is is partly located within the geological Paris Basin which is known to be full of limestone soils topped with clay and sand. The limestone is sometimes referred to as “Turonian Tuffeau” or “chalk” that imparts great acidity, freshness and ageability to these wines. The entire Touraine AOC of the Middle Loire is outlined below in beige on the map below, and you can see the Loir-et-Cher zone on the far east end of it.
